THAILAND by UTMB – INTHANON 3 – 54K
In general, the course of this race is based around hill tribe village communities. These communities used to grow opium, however under the guidance of the Royal Project, they have switched to other forms of agriculture, such as strawberries, chrysanthemum, and others The journey begins at Doi Inthanon National Park Headquarters.
The route will take runners on a climb up to Pha Tang for the sublime view of Doi Hua Sua. Khun Mae Ya Royal Project, and further on to Mae Aum Watershed Management Unit, where the pine forest and banana tree plantations are mixed. The route will then descend to Mae Samsob, Mae Rak, and Pa Pong Piang Villages before climbing up along the ridge line to the highest point of the route where runners will encounter two adjacent chedis, Naphamethinidon, and Naphaphonphumisiri. These temples were built to honour the 60th birthday anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1987, and the 60th birthday anniversary of Queen Sirikit in 1992, respectively. The last section will come down the hill through the Jeep Track route before arriving at the finish line.
